He's credited all over Ect. for writing out the lyrics and such, but should I know of this person?

aaron cometbus was the drummer for Crimpshrine; he also wrote most of the lyrics for the band. i'm not sure about all of his later projects, but he was in Pinhead Gunpowder. he's best known at this point in time for his Cometbus zine. the man's pretty much a bay area punk rock institution on account of Crimpshrine and the zine.

Buy Crimpshrine records if you don't have them. They were great and one of the best punk outfits of the late '80s. all of their stuff is collected on two releases on Lookout! Records.

Yeah, if you haven't heard Crimpshrine then you really need to.  You're missing out on a lot of great stuff.  And Cometbus (the zine) is genius in itself.  He makes the most simple stories sound so amazing.  And his handwriting is another reason he's so well known.  He writes all his zines by hand, and the way he does has been a long time trademark.  It's also very easy to read, which is part of the reason they chose him, I'm sure.  Aaron was also the drummer for Cleveland Bound Death Sentence, another really good band, when they were around.
For those of you who don't know who Crimpshrine is, Jeff Ott, the guitarist and vocals for Fifteen, played the same roll in Crimpshrine.  They also did a small split with Jawbreaker back in the day.

Crimpshrine and Fifteen were great. Cometbus seems like a pretty cool guy.

Crimpshrine was one of those bands back in the day along with jawbreaker that when I heard them made me get full on into punk rock. They were a fucking amazing band. If you like jawbreaker and especially the earlier jawbreaker stuff, you will like Crimpshrine.

It is so funny that Crimpshrine was brought up in conversation here.  I mean they are one of my fav bands, just amazing old school east bay garage punk.  Jeff Ott and Aaron Cometbus are a lot like Blake, in the way that they are all great songwriters and lyricists, and that the are totally repected and looked up too.  It is funny, because if you ask "Who is Jeff Ott?" in some circles, that is like saying "Who is this Blake Swajugiiubgb... guy?"  And respect to Andon for knowing about the Jawbreaker/Crimpshrine 7 inch split   had.  I have that record. ;-)  beautiful

Meh, everyone knows of the 7 inch split, I'm sure most of the people here know of it anyway, and Aaron was also in other bands.

Sweet Baby(Lookout!) is another of them, there's like 6 other bands he's been in, most of the music for the other bands is really hard to find, or at least I couldn't find anything of 'em.  There's a Crimpshrine site that lists all the bands that all members have been in.

lookout! records is not the only label crimpshrine has been released. they had an LP on the label "musical tragedies", released in germany called, "lame gig contest". an awesome record, very rare. i've only seen one in my life, my friend jason has it. i've been looking for it for well over ten years now. they had other releases on other labels -- skene!, very small, no idea, etc. look for them, they are one of my favorites.

And a year and a half later....

Lame Gig Contest is a really good record.  In fact, I do believe there's a framed version of it up at Size Records that a friend and I donated.
